Cirque du Soleil: Quidamquidam21  Cirque du soleil is back with Quidam, his third show that is going to visit Brazil. More than 300 shows will be presented here in Brazil. Quidam was created in 1996. It is about a girl that can’t keep the attention of her parents, her life lost all meaning, but she found in herself a world called Quidam, a world where she is happy, have friends, the fantastic world of Quidam.

1-Aerial Hoops : Suspended high above the stage or flying through the air on her hoop, a young woman performs a series of movements displaying her flexibility and strength.

2-Aerial Contortion in Silk: Intensity, power and grace combine as Anna becomes one with the column of red fabric which supports and cradles her. Set to haunting music, contortionist and cloth intertwine, separate and embrace again. The translucent fabric occasionally hugs the body of the performer, creating a stunning effect.

3-Banquine :The banquine act showcases the amazing agility of the human body. Fifteen artists perform spectacular sequences of acrobatics and human pyramids, astounding audiences with their perfectly synchronized movements. Banquine is an Italian acrobatic tradition, with origins that date back to the Middle Ages. This breathtaking act won a Golden Clown at the International Monte Carlo Circus Festival in 1999.

4-Cloud Swing: Trapeze and Spanish web techniques combine in the unique and daring Cloud Swing. The performer launches herself into a series of spectacular acrobatics that send her diving and twisting high above the stage.

5-Diabolos :The diabolo, or Chinese yo-yo, is a child’s game that the Chinese have evolved into an art form. Four young Chinese performers, each holding two sticks linked by a string on which a wooden spool is juggled, tossed and balanced, try to outdo each other in this stunning game of dexterity and ingenuity. This act won the Gold Medal at the 1995 Festival du Cirque de Demain in Paris.

6-German Wheel :A gymnastic exercise hailing from Germany, the German wheel is taken to a whole new level in Quidam. Shayne becomes a human spoke as he spins, turns, twists and maneuvers the wheel, performing gravity-defying somersaults and acrobatics.

7-Hand Balancing: Alighting onto the stage, the artist’s gracious silhouette immediately captivates the imagination. Perched on balancing canes, she moves elegantly through a series of precarious positions of ever-increasing intricacy.

8-Skipping Ropes :Do you remember the joy you felt as a child skipping rope with your friends? Drawing its inspiration from dance, acrobatics and the art of manipulation, Cirque du Soleil has transformed this familiar child’s game into a choreographic feat. As the ropes beat time, a group of 20 acrobats, endowed with exceptional co-ordination and rhythm, perform a steady stream of solo, duo and group jumps and figures.

9-Spanish Webs :Breaking with tradition, Quidampresents the Spanish web as a group act. Artists fly over the stage, attached to a specially designed conveyer called a telepheric. Suddenly, time stands still as the acrobats, in turn or as a group, drop into the void, stopped only by the ropes looped around their waists or ankles.

10-Statue – Vis Versa: Never losing contact, two strong, flexible performers move almost imperceptibly, assuming positions impossible without an impeccable sense of balance. Asa and Jerome call on their sensitivity and powers of concentration in their quest for perfect harmony. Their act is testimony to the natural beauty of the human body and won a Silver Clown at the International Monte Carlo Circus Festival in 2000.quidam612172224974_5646bca8bc_o

The tickets of Quidam are quite expansive, the most expensive ticket with tapis rouge costs 680 reais and the cheapest ticket costs about 200 reais.Quidam will be here in september, so let’s save some money. If you want more information about prices, location and how to buy your ticket, enjoy:

Art and me

How shocking it was for me to hear from some students that I had not told them all about my… well… unusual source of water as a child. So, if you’re one of those who still doesn’t have TMI (too much information) on your teacher yet, lay back and relax because this status is about to change…

Every one of us have cute stories to tell about our old days. The story I am going to tell today happened when I was about 4.

All my life I loved water, it is still my favourite “liquid thing” and my mother always knew that, and for that reason, every time I came to her and said “Mamãe, bebei água” (which used to happen God knows how many times a day) she was fine with that and may I say, happy, knowing her cute little daughter would never have bladder problems. One day she noticed that the tips of my hair (which was always short, Chanel style) were constantly wet, but not the rest of the hair. Finding it quite curious, she decided to investigate and went after me to see how that phenomenon was happening. Well, “the legends says” she was really scared/surprised when she saw me with my entire head into the toilet drinking water… ; ) and then she thought it may not be such a good thing that her baby loved water so much.

Poor mother. Of course she took me to the doctor, lowered the house filter and gave me medicines to stop the possible worms from growing inside of me… hey, I’m still alive and kicking, right? ; )

Now I’ve got a child of my own. He is 3, gorgeous and healthy and I thank God for that everyday.

He has not (has he?) drank water from the toilet… yet! ; )

How about you? Ask your mother, father, grandparents about the cute little things you used to do as a child and please post them. Let’s share! (of course you get a candy from me in classroom if you do! ; )
